The Columbus Symphony Orchestra is comprised of a diverse group of committed volunteer community members who share a love of music.

We welcome you to join us in giving back to the community!

Join Us

The CSO is primarily a volunteer symphony orchestra. Membership is open to people with
sufficient musical proficiency and at the discretion of the Music Director. Membership will be
contingent upon your record of attendance at rehearsals and concert events. We are always open
to new members in the string sections, and often have specific seats to fill in the winds, brass and
percussion. We do not require auditions in order to join our ensemble. Please contact us if you
would like more information about joining our organization.

Commitment & Attendance Policy

CSO musicians are expected to make a firm commitment to the rehearsal and performance
schedules. Consistent attendance from every musician is necessary to achieve and sustain levels of
performance and musicianship. Cooperation is critical to the overall success of the current
season and the continued artistic growth of the Orchestra.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held each Tuesday evening from 7:00 PM to 9:00 PM in the band room at
Central Middle School (725 7th St, Columbus, IN 47201).

The Music Director, in conjunction with the Board of Directors, establishes all rehearsal and
concert schedules. Schedules and especially rehearsal orders are subject to change. If there is an
emergency and the rehearsal or performance is canceled, an email will be sent out to all members
of the Orchestra as soon as possible.

Within or before the first 1-2 rehearsals of each cycle you will receive a detailed schedule and
instrumentation list via email. Each rehearsal date will include the pieces to be
rehearsed, by whom and when. It will give you the basis for prioritizing your at-home practice
time and include notification of sectionals and other "special" rehearsals.

Support Us

If you aren't a musician, don't worry! There are plenty of other ways to support our mission. The CSO is a nonprofit organization and accepts tax deductible donations. We also provide advertisements in our program books and thank our sponsors at each concert! If your organization or business would like more information about partnering with us, please contact us! We have several contribution levels, including the Youth Concerto Competition Sponsor, Venue Sponsor, Single Concert Sponsor, Partial Season Sponsor, and Season Sponsor. Other ways to give include volunteering your valuable time as a volunteer or board member. Last but not least, come to our concerts! We love playing for a full hall and enjoy performing for you!
