Voices of our Land

William McClain, Music Director Search Finalist

The Commons, 300 Washington St. Columbus, IN

Masks are optional

For our season finale we will celebrate the music of three composers who played a major role in the formation of an "American" orchestral sound. Dvorak is a well known Czech composer who after immigrating to the United States helped other composers to find their "voice". His beloved Romance for Violin and Orchestra will stir the soul. It is hard to imagine an American western movie soundtrack without the influence of Aaron Copland who defined the "western" sound for generations to come. The CSO will also perform excerpts from Appalachian Spring and Rodeo. Amy Beach's "Gaelic" Symphony is a gem in the orchestral repertoire which includes the sounds of folk music and bagpipes.

Copland: Variations on a Shaker Melody
Copland: Buckaroo Holiday from Four Dance Episodes from Rodeo
Dvorak: Romance in F minor, Op. 11
Amy Beach: Gaelic Symphony
